Bernese Mountain Dogs are large, strong, tri-colored working dogs known for their striking appearance and affectionate temperment. However, Bernese Mountain Dogs are not a breed for everyone. Health issues (such as cancers, dysplasia and short lifespan), temperment and behavior issues, excessive shedding, appropriate training, and their adult size are often overlooked by first-time Berner owners.
As a result, the number of Bernese Mountain Dogs requiring rescue or placement in new homes and even euthanasia is sadly increasing. For both your happiness and the dog's, please thoroughly research the breed and the breeders before you buy. Not all breeders are responsible and all puppies are not created equal. That adorable puppy may grow to be an adult too large or in need of too much medical attention for your family to properly care for financially or emotionally.
